10 Health Benefits of Strawberries

Whether fresh or frozen, there's no denying that strawberries are a popular fruit—but they also pack a healthy punch. Read on to learn 10 surprising health benefits of strawberries.

Add more strawberries to your diet
If you’re not already a fan of strawberries, you should be. Not only are they juicy, summery and delicious, they’re a bona fide super food, too. Nutrient-rich and packed with antioxidants (like vitamin C), strawberries offer a wide range of health benefits, some of which may surprise you. (Wrinkle-prevention? Yes please!). Here are 10 reasons you should add more strawberries to your diet.

Strawberries boost immunity
"Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C," says Toronto-based registered dietitian Madeleine Edwards. Most mammals—except for humans—have the ability to produce vitamin C naturally, which is why it’s so important to get your daily requirement. "One serving of strawberries contains 51.5 mg of vitamin C—about half of your daily requirement," Edwards says. "Double a serving to one cup and get 100 percent." Vitamin C is a well-known immunity booster, as well as a powerful, fast-working antioxidant. A 2010 UCLA study discovered that the antioxidant power in strawberries becomes “bioavailable” or “ready to work in the blood” after eating the fruit for just a few weeks.

Strawberries promote eye health
The antioxidant properties in strawberries may also help to prevent cataracts—the clouding over of the eye lens—which can lead to blindness in older age. Our eyes require vitamin C to protect them from exposure to free-radicals from the sun’s harsh UV rays, which can damage the protein in the lens. Vitamin C also plays an important role in strengthening the eye's cornea and retina. While high doses of vitamin C have been found to increase the risk of cataracts in women over 65, researchers from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm note that the risk pertains to vitamin C obtained from supplements, not the vitamin C from fruits and vegetables.

Strawberries help fight cancer
Vitamin C is one of the antioxidants that can help with cancer prevention, since a healthy immune system is the body’s best defense. A phytochemical called ellagic acid—also found in strawberries—is another. “Ellagic acid has been shown to yield anti-cancer properties like suppressing cancer cell growth,” says Edwards. “Strawberries [also] contain antioxidants lutein and zeathancins. Antioxidants are scavengers to free-radicals and neutralize the potentially negative effect they can have on our cells,” she says.

Strawberries keep wrinkles at bay
The power of vitamin C in strawberries continues, as it is vital to the production of collagen, which helps to improve skin’s elasticity and resilience. Since we lose collagen as we age, eating foods rich in vitamin C may result in healthier, younger-looking skin. But vitamin C isn’t the only naturally-occurring wrinkle fighter found in strawberries. Researchers at Hallym University in the Republic of Korea concluded that ellagic acid visibly prevented collagen destruction and inflammatory response—two major factors in the development of wrinkles—in human skin cells, after continued exposure to skin-damaging UV-B rays.

Strawberries fight bad cholesterol
According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, heart disease is one of the leading causes of death among Canadian women. Luckily, strawberries also contain powerful heart-healthy boosters. “Ellagic acid and flavonoids— or phytochemicals—can provide an antioxidant effect that can benefit heart health in various ways,” explains Edwards. “One way includes counteracting the effect of low-density lipoprotein, or LDL—bad cholesterol in the blood—which causes plaque to build up in arteries. A second way is that they provide an anti-inflammatory effect, which is also good for the heart.” Researchers at the Clinical Nutrition and Risk Factor Modification Center in Toronto studied the effect of strawberries on a cholesterol-lowering diet and concluded that adding strawberries to the diet reduced oxidative damage, as well as blood lipids—both of which play a role in heart disease and diabetes.

Strawberries reduce inflammation
The antioxidants and phytochemicals found in strawberries may also help to reduce inflammation of the joints, which may cause arthritis and can also lead to heart disease. A study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health shows that women who eat 16 or more strawberries per week are 14 percent less likely to have elevated levels of C-reactive protein (CRP)—an indication of inflammation in the body.

Strawberries regulate blood pressure
Potassium is yet another heart healthy nutrient, and with 134 mg per serving, strawberries are considered a "medium source," according to Alberta Health Services. Potassium can help regulate blood pressure and may even help to lower high blood pressure by acting as a buffer against the negative effects of sodium. With their impact on the reduction of LDL, inflammation and high blood pressure, strawberries have earned the title of one of the most heart-healthy fruits you can eat.

Strawberries boost fiber
Fiber is a necessity for healthy digestion, and strawberries naturally contain about 2 g per serving. Problems that can arise from lack of fiber include constipation and diverticulitis—an inflammation of the intestines—which affects approximately 50 percent of people over 60. Fiber can also aid in fighting type 2 diabetes. “Fiber helps slow the absorption of sugars (i.e. glucose) in the blood,” says Edwards. "As a result, adults who are managing diabetes can enjoy strawberries—in moderation—in their diet."

Strawberries aid in weight management
Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the best defenses against type 2 diabetes and heart disease, not to mention just plain good for your overall well-being. “Strawberries are naturally low calorie (around 28 kCal per serving), fat-free and low in both sodium and sugar,” says Edwards. “Strawberries do contain natural sugars—though total sugars are fairly low with 4 grams per serving—and the total carbohydrate content is equivalent to less than a half slice of bread. Triple your serving to 1.5 cups and you'll have a snack that's less than 100 calories—and much healthier than those pre-packaged 100-calorie snacks!”

Strawberries promote pre-natal health
Folate is a B-vitamin recommended for women who are pregnant or trying to conceive, and strawberries are a good source with 21 mcg per serving. Folate is necessary in the early stages of pregnancy to help in the development of the baby’s brain, skull and spinal cord, and the folic acid in strawberries may help to prevent certain birth defects, such as spina bifida.

Don't forget to add delicious strawberries for your meals.

How to Balance Your Career, Social Life and Dating Life

Struggling to find balance in an age where 24 hours simply aren’t enough? Here are a few tips to find balance and live a full life!

Balancing your work, social and dating life can be a bit of a hassle. It truly takes discipline and dedication to make sure your life is well-rounded. One of the greatest advantages of attaining this sought-after balance is that it reduces the amount of stress in your life, and we could all use a little less stress.

There has to be more to life than working, and it is vital to add some fun to your life. The more you work, the more you begin to neglect your personal life. But if you focus too much on dating or your social life, your career may not advance as much as you had hoped it would. So how can the average person pull it off?

How to find balance in life

Taking the time to ensure that your different priorities are in order may seem daunting, but these tips will help make finding the balance easier.

#1 Make time for your important relationships. The people in your life may have tried to reach out to you on several occasions, and of course, you were busy working. They will be understanding and empathetic, but at some point, you have to make time to reconnect with them. The more you become so consumed with your work life, the more all of those relationships will begin to falter.

Take some time to reach out to the people in your life. Just taking the time to have a conversation with someone can help keep the relationship afloat. A quick phone call or a lunch break together can work wonders. During the hustle and bustle of your everyday life, try to take the people you love into consideration. No one likes to feel neglected or unimportant to someone they care for.

#2 Health is wealth. This is not just an expression. It is about having a healthy and balanced lifestyle to ensure you feel wealthy all around. Throughout your busy schedule, take time out to take care of your body. Make an exercise schedule for the gym or for your home to get the adequate amount of movement your body needs. Your body will surely thank you.

Making it a point to focus on your health will give you the energy you require for your busy life. Plus, it will add to your ability to be productive throughout the week. Even if you do not have time for a rigorous workout, you can still try to fit in a brisk walk or find alternative healthy choices.

#3 Cater to your love life. If you are in a relationship and are able to manage it well while having a demanding work life, and then you are already one step ahead. However, if you are single or in a relationship but your love life is in shambles, then it is time to take the time to take care of your love life. It can be hard trying to maintain an active dating life when you are focused on work and your goals. But it’s not impossible.

Try to fit a date night into your schedule with your lover or a love interest at least once or twice every two weeks. If you are single and ready to mingle, then step out with your friends and try to snag a potential date or two. If going out is not for you, online dating is also a great option. The purpose of catering to your love life is to have some source of romantic pleasure in your life. All work and no love can leave you feeling lonely or isolated from romance. We can use a little romance in our lives, and finding balance with your dating life can add more happiness to your life also.

#4 Fit some social outings into your schedule. Scheduling events and social outings into your schedule is vital during your pursuit to balance your life. It is just like scheduling meetings and work-related activities. Planning social outings is simply carving out the time to kick back or to let loose. Taking the time to enjoy life can help to relieve the stress that your professional life may cause you.

The key is to find something that provides a fun way to release some steam and to get work off your mind for the time being. Treat yourself to some well deserved shopping and ask a friend or two to tag along. Social outings can be simple yet effective, when it comes to balancing your life. Diversifying your personal schedule allows you to stave off the boredom of a repetitive work schedule.

#5 Try not to work on weekends. Yes, it can be hard to not do any work-related tasks on weekends, especially if you are scheduled to work on the weekend. But try to take a leave on those days or trade shifts with your coworkers from time to time. This way, you will get the opportunity to enjoy a full weekend every so often. And we all know that working on weekends while our friends are out and about can make us cranky.

If you do not have to work on weekends, then avoid even thinking about work by resisting the urge to check your emails. You may feel like you’re being productive by working on weekends, but in reality, you’re just conditioning your mind to be glued to work, even when you should be relaxing. Don’t let your job dictate your life!

#6 Be as productive as possible at work. You may think that showing up for work and doing what needs to be done are the equivalent of productivity, but the truth is, there’s more to working on your career than getting the bare minimum done. Try to resist the urge to procrastinate while you’re at work, and do your best to do some advance work to free yourself up in case a new emergency task is required.

The less you think about that impending deadline or that dreaded task you’ve been trying to avoid, the more likely you’ll be able to have a stress-free life outside of the workplace. As a general rule, settle everything you can before you step out of the office to ensure that your job won’t haunt you.

#7 Ditch social media, even for a day. How many hours have you spent scanning your newsfeed, only to end up refreshing it for the latest updates? Social media is no longer as social as we want it to be, and it’s easy to get sucked into the inane posts that fleetingly hold our attention. It’s also just as easy to be that annoying Facebook user who posts nothing of value.

Our advice: Get social in real life. Use social media only to set up meetings in real life. Stop wasting time in front of a screen and do something more productive!

#8 Be still and breathe. Sometimes, the most satisfying and the most vital balancing act is being still. Taking the time to breathe and just be still can help you feel at ease. We often get so used to being busy that we forget to sit down and relax. Your mind and your body need to recover, and depriving yourself of that will only burn you out!

The key to balancing your life activities is figuring out a way to spread your energy evenly throughout your work, social and dating life. Take the time to work on your career, spend time with loved ones, enjoy your dating life, and just stop and be still.

Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

Do you love to hear the benefits of coconut oil? Then here is the chance. Coconut oil has been called the healthiest dietary oil on earth. If you’re not using coconut oil for your daily cooking and body care needs, you’re missing out on one of nature’s most amazing health foods.

Coconut oil is nature’s perfect food and there are an incredible number of benefits to using coconut oil in everyday life – from minor infections to serious diseases, coconut oil cures it all.

Multiple studies on Pacific Island populations (who get 30-60 percent of their total caloric intake from fully saturated coconut oil) have all shown nearly non-existent rates of cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and obesity – issues we have come to accept as only being cured by pharmaceuticals. We now know that not all saturated fats are created equal. Coconut oil is composed primarily of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) that are burned almost immediately for energy production.

Studies have shown that coconut oil can successfully overpower viruses that cause influenza, herpes, measles, hepatitis C, AIDS – and more. It’s also great fuel for your brain and has proven especially beneficial for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. There are a lot ways to use coconut oil and just a teaspoon or so a day could make significant differences in your health.

5 Ways to Enjoy Coconut Oil

1. In Cooking: Replace butter and other cooking oils with coconut oil. Unlike other oils, coconut oil won’t produce free-radicals upon heating like other vegetable oils do.

2. Face and Body Lotion: Coconut oil is without question the best natural skin lotion available. It absorbs quickly and won’t leave your skin feeling greasy. A single jar of coconut oil can be used as a face lotion, body lotion, anti-wrinkle cream, eye-cream, stretch mark cream and massage lotion. And it smells amazing!

3. Hair Care: Coconut oil makes a great hair mask. Simply melt a few teaspoons of coconut oil and apply to your hair. Let the natural oil soak in to your hair for a few hours before washing it out. It will leave your hair very shiny and smooth!

4. In Smoothies or Juices: Coconut oil is the perfect addition to any smoothie. It adds a sweet and nutty taste and creates the most smooth and creamy texture. And the extra bonus is that the fat from the coconut oil actually helps your body better utilize the minerals and vitamins from the fruit juices.

5. Sun Screen: Coconut oil has been used as an effective sunscreen for thousands of years by indigenous pacific islanders. Coconut oil applied on the skin protects against sunburn and cancer. Approximately 75% of commercial sunscreens contain toxic chemicals that are linked to cancer and disrupt hormones.

The Benefits to Daily Consumption of Coconut Oil

Increased immune function
Reduces risk of cancer and other degenerative conditions
Alzheimer’s treatment
Diabetes management
Heart disease prevention
Provides long lasting energy
Promotes weight loss
Great for skin and hair
Improved digestion
Functions as a protective antioxidant.

10 Signs about your relationship whether you should carry on or not...

Hi guys, Hope you all to have an amazing day! Are you a person who loves to have a good relationship in your life? And also a lover who tries to protect your relationship? Then you will like to know whether your partner really interests about you and the relationship. If you know the real answer, of course it will help you to carry on the relationship more over. Concern your partner regarding the relationship which you have with these things and have an idea about the interests of your partner. It’s hard to know whether you should stick it out and persevere or cut your losses and move on. Here’s how you can tell if you should stay or go.

A lot of relationships fail. Most of them do, really. And that’s not such a terrible thing. It’s often for the best, and as much as it hurts, you’ve got to take away the life lessons and move on. But this is a hard decision to make. What if you’ve just only hit a small speed bump and giving up the relationship is something you’ll later come to regret?

Sometimes things end because you’re just fighting all the time. When this happens, it’s obvious that it’s time to quit. But in a lot of relationships, it just starts to feel old, and things start getting boring. Everything starts to feel like a routine, and you don’t feel like the relationship is going anywhere. It may be time to break up.

But even this feeling of staleness, of losing interest, can be misleading. It could be due to external factors, or it may just mean that you need a jolt of excitement, of trying new things and getting out of the rut. But it could also mean it’s time to cut your losses and move on.

How can you know if it’s just a phase or the end?
If you feel like you’re losing interest in your relationship and in your significant other, here’s how to tell if it’s a temporary blip, or a sign that it’s time for a big change.

#1 Heavy lift. Spending time together in a normal relationship should not feel like a chore. If you have a slight feeling of dread before meeting up with your significant other, that does not bode well for you two. Also, if you feel exhausted or just mentally drained after a day spent together, it’s time to move on. Spending casual time together should not feel like an obligation.

2 Stuck on the sofa. If you have plans to meet, and you just can’t seem to motivate yourself to go, it’s time to question why you’re still in the relationship. Often you’ll just be glued to the TV, or browsing your Facebook timeline for the fifth time. You’re not even enjoying yourself, you’re just putting off walking out the door. This could be a sign of depression, but if you’re feeling okay otherwise, then it’s a loss of interest in the relationship.

#3 The company of others. Your girlfriend or boyfriend doesn’t have to be the first person you want to spend time with on any given day or night, but if you find that they’re rarely or never your top choice, you should start to ask yourself why that is. It’s great hanging out with your friends, and you don’t always have to invite your significant other along, but if you never want to, there’s probably no future for the relationship.

#4 Constant bother. You know when you’re just having a bad day, and little things that shouldn’t be a big deal just annoy the heck out of you? Well, one of the signs that you’ve lost interest in your relationship is that your significant other increasingly makes you feel this way. It’s even likely that things that he or she used to do all the time that you found cute or endearing, are now the cause of your annoyance. There’s probably no way back from this point, if that’s how you feel. Time for a breakup.

5 Picking fights. Fighting is not always a bad thing, as it can help to strengthen relationships, if you can communicate well and avoid pettiness. But constant arguments are a bad sign, and if you’re the one starting most of them, it’s probably for a deeper reason than the small things that started each fight.
It may not even be a conscious thing. You might not realize that you’re doing it because you want out of the relationship. That’s a bad situation, and unfair to your partner. If the fights are getting worse and more frequent, it’s time to think about calling it quits.

#6 Intimacy lost. Hugs and kisses are one of the first casualties when someone starts losing interest in their relationship. The small, intimate things that were always there at the start just don’t happen as much anymore. It could be the goodnight kiss, the hand holding, or the hug when you see each other after a long day at work. If you’re getting bored of the relationship, the absence of these things is a big giveaway.

#7 Bedroom bore. This one seems pretty obvious, and loss of interest in the bedroom is often a sign that you’re losing interest. But people’s sex drives can go up or down for a number of reasons, from health, to external stress, so this is one to be careful with.

Oftentimes, it’s just when it becomes too routine that you don’t want sex as much as you used to. Try changing things up in the bedroom. Bring in role-play, or dirty talk, explore your fantasies and kinks. If none of this works, than it may be a larger problem with the relationship itself.

#8 Eyes for others. A very common sign of a tired and stale relationship is wandering eyes – when you start looking at other men or women, or fantasizing about a co-worker. These aren’t necessarily bad things to do, but when it becomes constant, and you stop thinking of your significant other in a sexual light, then it’s time for some self-examination. You don’t have to only have eyes for your partner, but you should at least have them.

#9 Non-disclosure. At the start of a relationship, you start confiding a lot in your significant other. This doesn’t necessarily have to be your deep, dark secrets. It may just be a problem you had with your boss or an argument with a family member. It could even be a funny story a co-worker told or just about your day in general. When you stop sharing these seemingly mundane yet crucial things, it could be because you’re tired of the relationship.

10 A bore. Sometimes there comes a point in the relationship where you just feel, well, bored. It’s important to differentiate between boredom in the relationship, and general boredom in your life. Think hard about it: if you were to break up, would you start feeling more or less bored? You may just need to work together with your partner to find ways to break out of your routines. Try new things, go new places, and spice up your sex life. But if you feel like a breakup would cure the boredom, well then that’s what you should do.

There’s usually no going back after you decide to end your relationship, so think long and hard before you do it. All of these signs are a good indication that time is up for you, but most of them might have some other cause.

People have a lot of stress in their lives, from work, to family problems, to health issues. It could just be that one or both of you are going through a rough patch that will pass. Breaking up is a big decision, even in a fairly new relationship. It’s not one that should be taken lightly. But sometimes, it’s something that must be done.

Have some idea of your relationship and try to protect it if you really need to save your relationship. Remember all the relationships depend on the sacrifices of you and your partner. You can change your world whenever you need. That is your life.

Well Said...
